What is The Building Permit Process in Oakville, Ontario?
When the building permit application is submitted, the City examines the application against the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and Zoning Bylaw regulations. There might be other approvals required based on the scope of work.
These approvals need to be obtained from different departments and authorities, such as the Region (for new water/sewer connections), Development and Engineering Department (grading approval), and Planning Department (Site Plan approval).
How Long Does it Take to Get a Building Permit in GTA?
When the application is submitted to the City, the City staff will screen the submitted documents to ensure they are complete. This screening phase takes 5 to 10 business days.
Then the application fee payment notification will be sent to the applicant. After the fee is paid, the review process starts. The plan examination process takes 10 to 20 business days, depending on the workload and the number of applications in the queue.
After completing the first cycle review, some examiners might require more information or clarifications. This will add another 5 to 15 business days for the second cycle review time.
